Kathie Lee Gifford Announces She’s Leaving NBC’s ‘Today’ Show After 11 Years

Kathie Lee Gifford is opening up about her decision to leave "Today."

Kathie Lee Gifford tearfully announced her upcoming departure from the Today show in an emotional on-air reveal that highlighted the bond between her and longtime co-anchor Hoda Kotb. Before her turn on the "Today" show, Gifford co-anchored "Live" with Regis Philbin for fifteen years. "So I said if you guys can work it out for me, that I can still do my projects, I'll stay", she said.

"I've been in this business for 120 years and never worked with a more attractive group of people who just give, give every day", she said. "I stayed year after year making a million memories with people I will never forget".

Kathie Lee Gifford says Hoda Kotb is in charge when it comes to her replacement on the Today show. "You chose me. And that's how it started".

According to People, Kathie Lee joined the Today show in 2008. "Everything good that's happened in my life has happened since you came...."

The announcement had both women choking back tears. "I remember thinking, how does one person step into your life and change it like that?"

The duo celebrated their 10-year-anniversary earlier this year with tributes from friends and celebrities they've had fun with over the years.

New York Times reporter Josh Koblin broke the news on Tuesday, with a statement from NBC News president Noah Oppenheim.

NBC says they are working on plans for that hour but they did say, the plans would include Hoda.

"Whether in studio or on one of their many road trips, they have delighted our audience with their distinct brand of fun, friendship and adventure. In short - she is a legend".

Even though that specific building was emptied, the rest of the sprawling Facebook campus was not told to evacuate. Police said they secured a perimeter around the building and diverted traffic during the incident.
