Mueller, Trump among Time’s ‘Person of the Year’ finalists

The honour is bestowed to a person who has made the most impact on news, culture and/or politics around the world during the last calendar year.

TIME has made the designation every year since 1927. TIME reported that he has also made headlines for several controversial actions including Russia's involvement in the 2016 USA presidential election, his reported possible involvement in the poisoning of ex-Russian spy Sergei Skripal, and increasing tension with Ukraine.

The magazine released a shortlist of 10 finalists Monday on NBC's "Today" show, and among them are Parkland's March For Our Lives activists.

They also argue the United Kingdom could not unilaterally pull out of the arrangement and that it has no time limit. It was a new blow for May, who became prime minister after Britain's 2016 referendum decision to leave the EU.


The cover image for the 2017 selection featured women who spoke out against sexual misconduct, from high-profile figures, such as Taylor Swift, to lesser-known survivors, such as former Uber engineer Susan Fowler and Mexican migrant farmworker Isabel Pascual.

The magazine cited President Moon's role in hosting the North Korean leader's sister at the PyeongChang Winter Olympics. and the three historic inter-Korean summits held in 2018.

A vocal critic of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, the journalist is believed to have been murdered on orders from the prince.

TIME magazine has named their annual Person of the Year cover, and this year the media-based honorific goes to "killed and imprisoned journalists" featuring Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi who was politically assassinated by Saudi officials on one of four covers.
