Doctor Who New Year’s Special Trailer Seemingly Teases A Classic Villain

Doctor Who fans will have to wait until 2020 for the next series, although there will be a special episode on New Year's Day to keep them happy.

It continued: "Series 12 will see Jodie reprise her role as the Doctor and she will once again be joined by Bradley Walsh (Graham), Mandip Gill (Yasmin) and Tosin Cole (Ryan)".

"We're off again! Well we never actually stopped", says Chris Chibnall, Doctor Who executive producer and head writer in a statement.

Meanwhile, BBC America confirmed that Whittaker will be returning to "Doctor Who" for her second season, which is set to air in early 2020. We adore making this show and have been blown away by the response from audiences, so we can't wait to bring more scares, more monsters and more Bradley Walsh, Mandip Gill and Tosin Cole.

The Doctor Who New Year's Special will air, appropriately enough, on New Year's Day.

Charlotte Moore, Director of Content, added: "We're delighted that the Doctor and her friends will be returning to thrill audiences in 2020". Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter over the weekend, the 13th Doctor confirmed she will be back. "It's been an extraordinary journey so far and I'm not quite ready to hand it over yet".

In the meantime, there is the Doctor Who New Year's Special which means 2019 won't entirely be void of the series.

Lizo Mzimba, the BBC's entertainment correspondent, said while there was "a recognition that fans might want a series every single year, Doctor Who has nearly uniquely complex filming requirements and a lengthy post-production period". Are you disappointed to hear about the long wait?

Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who will be back on our screens - but not until 2020.

According to the BBC, the latest season of Doctor Who has been a smashing success.
