Comey praises Trump attorney general nominee William Barr

Comey praises Trump attorney general nominee William Barr

In an affidavit, Delrahim said his position took "no account of the views" of Trump and that he never received instructions from the White House.

Mueller knows that Barr understands that investigations must be insulated from politics.

Who the UN ambassador is (or what the United Nations does) is not of particular concern to President Trump. "If confirmed, Trump will have a partner in one of the most powerful roles of the administration, and someone who defended the president's decision to fire James Comey".

Barr, who joined the Time Warner board in 2009, voted for the merger with AT&T and was a strong advocate for it.

In recent incidents, Barr has defended Trump over firing Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey in the year 2017. The Washington Post reports that Trump pressed Barr on what he would do with the Mueller investigation, including whether or not he would recuse himself.

He has said that Robert Mueller hired too many prosecutors with Democratic campaign ties for his investigative team - telling the Washington Post he "would have liked to see [Mueller] have more balance".

Barr, 68, served as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush from 1991-93.

Slate on Friday also noted an interview Barr gave in 2001, where Barr says he "certainly did not oppose" any of the pardons.

Barr also served as Mueller's boss when he was attorney general in the early 1990s and Mueller led the criminal division at the Justice Department.

In the olden days of presidential appointments and nominations, the focus was justifiably on the nominees - their background, what their policy positions said about the role they would play in an administration and whether or not they would get confirmed.

Barr, who was acting attorney general at the time of the Talladega prison riots, has said he overruled a Bureau of Prisons plan to respond and instead directed the FBI to go in, telling officials there'd be no concessions and to prepare for a hostage rescue situation.

Barr was also quoted in a New York Times article last November discussing the president's call to the Justice Department to investigate Hillary Clinton.

The president is weighing a number of other end-of-year staff changes, including replacing Chief of Staff John Kelly, two of Trump's advisers said on Thursday.

David Stacy, HRC's director of government affairs, said that Barr was "ill suited" to head the department. A local expert on public policy believes the U.S. Senate will follow through and approve the nomination. On Friday, he is expected to drop court filings about Michael Cohen and Paul Manafort, which could reveal more clues.

The Israeli ambassador thanked outgoing Ambassador Nikki Haley and said that "in the past two years we have succeeded in close cooperation to change the hostile spirit in the United Nations and lead to unprecedented achievements".
