The technology giant said it had partnerships with more than a dozen news organizations to deliver an audio feed in the same manner as its smartphone news feed. The new functionality will bring Google Assistant users an audio news playlist put together on the spot.

Google's voice assistant can already deliver audio stories when you ask it to play the news.

Apparently you'll be able to skip news stories - but it's really the immediacy of these stories that will make the difference. However, the content is usually taken from television or radio casts.

To improve and build out this audio news experience, we've built an open specification, available for news organizations that would like to participate.

Audio news will roll out on Google Assistant in the United States and in English first, and on a limited basis at first. The briefing will start with short stories under two minutes, and then move on to slightly meatier stories up to 15 minutes long. Now rolling out to a select number of users is an artificial intelligence-infused news briefing that will give you the rundown of worldly occurrences you need to hear about.
