Man coughs up part of lung while being treated for heart failure

The anti-coagulants the man was taking forced blood out of his pulmonary system and into his right lung.

Wieselthaler told the Atlantic that in this case, the patient had an infection that increased levels of a protein called fibrinogen, which helps blood clots form; and higher levels of fibrinogen could have helped the man's large clot to stay intact when it was coughed up.

The unidentified 36-year-old man found himself in the intensive care unit at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center late last month for chronic heart failure.

A man who later died stunned doctors by coughing up a six-inch-wide blood clot from his lungs in the near-perfect shape of his right bronchial tree.

Doctors were treating him with oxygen tanks when he had the coughing fit.

A man coughed up a freakish blood clot that was practically a copy of the inside of his lung, astonishing doctors around the world.

The reports claimed that she had been suffering from HIV and that possibly could be the reason why she committed suicide . More than 50 people are involved in pumping out water.

In other words, the man was rushed to hospital with chronic heart failure and to help his heart, doctors at the University of California - where the man was admitted - connected him to a machine created to maximise blood flow around the body.

Doctors were surprised by the blood clot cast.

A 2005 report in the European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery refers to a similar case where a pregnant woman coughed up a less-extensive blood clot cast also in the shape of her bronchial tree.

"We were astonished", he said. "It's a curiosity you can't imagine-I mean, this is very, very, very rare". But it's actually a blood clot, coughed up intact by a patient suffering from heart failure.

The 36-year-old had been admitted to hospital with heart failure, but died during his first week of treatment.
