Blow For Man City Ajax Starlet Agrees To Join PSG

Ajax sensation Frenkie de Jong is not sure whether he will remain with Ajax or leave as Barcelona, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain circle.

De Jong's agent Ali Dursan has now poured cold water over any chance of a January switch, reiterating that the former Willem II man is contracted to the Eredivisie outfit.

The Sun claims that the 21-year-old midfielder will turn down the chance to sign for Pep Guardiola's side in favour of a £67 million move to the French champions.

Barca appear to have quite a strict wage hierarchy and don't want to break that - something that they worry PSG, and potentially Manchester City, aren't so fussed about.

Current PSG star Kylian Mbappe had recommended the player and the idea of living in Paris was - unbelievably - more attractive to De Jong than the prospect of living in Manchester.

Ajax technical director Marc Overmars is said to have quoted the £67m fee, which should pose no problem to cash-rich PSG.

'There are so many I look at, especially the midfielders.

Mbappe has been keen on the club bringing De Jong to France to take up the playmaker role. "In the winter I will not leave anyway".

"I don't pay attention to it", De Jong said.

De Jong has been compared to Dutch great Johan Cruyff in terms of his talent, even if his specific skillset means he is not the same kind of player.

Expounding on the transfer speculation, in particular the stories surrounding a big-money bid from Ligue 1 champions PSG, he added: "It's an issue since the start of the season".

De Jong seems destined to become Ajax's most expensive sale ever - beating the £35m that Tottenham had to pay for Davinson Sanchez past year.
