Kevin Hart steps down as Oscars host after outcry over old tweets

Eastern time, Hart said he got a call from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and was asked to apologize for his prior tweets, or step down as host.

Representatives for the Academy, which organizes the Oscars, did not immediately respond to EW's request for comment on Hart's decision to step down.

"Keep in mind, I'm not homophobic, I have nothing against gay people, do what you want to do, but me, being a heterosexual male, if I can prevent my son from being gay, I will, " Hart said.

"I swear our world is becoming beyond insane", Hart said.

After finding himself in a very precarious situation, Kevin Hart has responded to critics after being called out for deleting some old anti-LGBTQ tweets. "Or we're gonna have to move and find another host.' Talking about the tweets from 2009, 2010", Hart said in a new video posted Thursday evening. "I am evolving and want to continue to do so".

"Guys, I'm nearly 40 years old, if you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you".

"That's a hard topic for me because I'm a big fan of Kevin Hart and I know that he probably didn't mean any malice by it but I mean I think an apology is due if it hasn't been given before", Rodriguez said on the red carpet for the GQ Man of the Year awards Thursday night.

"I chose to pass on the apology". The first is his long history of the use of the phrases "fag" and "no homo" in a litany of tweets spanning several years and the second, far more harmful behaviour, is his frequent comedic output in his stand-up and elsewhere surrounding a fear and disgust that his own son would one day come out as gay. "I hope we can meet again".

One of the 2011 tweets that garnered plenty of outrage reads, "Yo if my son comes home & try's 2 play with my daughters doll house I'm going 2 break it over his head & say n my voice "stop that's gay". Within hours, concerns were raised online that resurfaced a litany of (now-deleted) tweets. "I'm in a completely different place in my life". If you don't believe that people change, grow, evolve as they get older, I don't know what to tell you.

Hart will host the 2019 Academy Awards, fulfilling a lifelong dream for the actor-comedian. BuzzFeed also reported that Hart was deleting homophobic tweets. I'm the wrong guy, man. Eddie Murphy famously stepped down as Oscar emcee in 2011 when the show's executive producer (and longtime Murphy collaborator) Brett Ratner was sacked for saying rehearsal in film production "is for fags", during an interview with Howard Stern.
