Kendrick Lamar leads the 2019 Grammy Awards nominations

Monáe, herself snagged an Album Of The Year nomination for her most recent project, Dirty Computer.

Behind him is Drake who is nominated for: Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Record of the Year ("God's Plan"), Best Rap Song ("God's Plan" and "Sicko Mode"), and two for Best Rap Performance ("Nice for What" and "Sicko Mode").

Pianists Fred Hersch and Brad Mehldau, saxophonists Tia Fuller and Miguel Zenón, and vocalists Gregory Porter and Cécile McLorin Salvant are among the nominees for the 61st Grammy Awards.

But a few of the more public snubs are getting attention, including Grammy heavyweights Beyonce and Jay Z for their long-awaited joint album, Everything Is Love. The 2019 Grammy Awards will be televised nationally at 7 p.m. February 10 on CBS.

But women will also lead in a variety of categories this year. She has garnered 10 awards and is the only woman to win album of the year twice. Her latest album was only nominated for one award, best pop vocal album.

Their music video for Apes**t will go up against This Is America from Childish Gambino, I'm Not Racist from Joyner Lucas, PYNK from Janelle Monae, and MUMBO JUMBO from Tierra Whack.

One of the nominees is Greta Van Fleet, whose debut album, "Anthem of the Peaceful Army", was released too late for Grammy consideration, though the MI band had played festivals - including Lollapalooza in Grant Park - on the back of a pair of 2017 EP's and a major-label marketing push.

The couple, however, have been surprisingly shut out of the main categories including Best Album.

Six of the eight 2019 nominees for Best New Artist are women. The singer finally broke through with "Midwest Farmer's Daughter" in 2016 and amplified that success with "All American Made" in 2017. That's because her two Grammy nods past year disqualify her from a best new artist award.

Drake received a total of seven nominations, while Cardi B and Childish Gambino both earned five.

"Shallow" from A STAR IS BORN has been nominated for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, and Best Song Written for Visual Media. West, who has never won a Grammy in a major category, was also nominated for just one Grammy, for best non-classical producer. Their direct competitors are Gregory Porter, for Nat "King" Cole & Me, as well as Seal, Barbra Streisand and Willie Nelson, for albums largely featuring songbook standards. And "Liquid Melancholy: Clarinet Music of James M. Stephenson" - an album by CSO assistant principal clarinet John Bruce Yeh - was nominated for best engineered album, classical (engineered by Bill Maylone and Mary Mazurek).

Chicago Symphony Orchestra composer-in-residence Missy Mazzoli was nominated for best contemporary classical composition for "Vespers for Violin".
