Jake Gyllenhaal Confirms 'Spider-Man' Role in First Instagram Post

Collider reports that the first trailer from Spider-Man: Far From Home will be shown at the Sony panel at Comic-Con Experience in San Paulo, Brazil this Saturday before being turned loose online. But now at last, it seems we have confirmation, from the horse's (evil magician's) mouth. To seal the deal, the post includes the caption "I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man".

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige previously confirmed the 2019 sequel will take Peter Parker out of NY for a European adventure in London that will reflect the global aftermath of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4.

In the 37-year-old actor's first Instagram post, he jokingly confirmed what we all pretty much knew already. The actor teases fans over realising that he's not playing Spider-Man, while reading a comic with Mysterio on the cover (and another such cover is framed on the wall behind him).

In May, it was reported that Gyllenhaal was in talks to play the role of Spider-Man's adversary in the Far from Home film. It's now unclear which incarnation of Mysterio Gyllenhaal will be portraying.

Mysterio, real name Quentin Beck, first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man #13 in June 1964.

Mysterio is a special effects expert who commits crimes and fights Spider-Man using elaborate illusions, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Tom Holland also returns for The Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
