Nats sign P Corbin to 6-year deal

Two Tommy John surgeries and a heavy postseason workload have led some teams to "hesitate" pursuing Eovaldi, but he reportedly has at least nine teams interested, throws gas and can pitch in relief and as a starter. If deGrom had not put together such a phenomenal season, Corbin would have likely taken home the NL Cy Young award last season due to his strong overall performance.

For a Yankees team that has made starting pitching a priority this offseason, Corbin was an initial favorite to land in the Bronx. Whether or not it will occur before next week's MLB Winter Meetings remains to be seen.

Corbin was considered the top starter available in an elite free-agent class and became the first player among them to sign a big money, multiyear deal this off-season. The Phillies trade to acquire Segura, a two-time All-Star himself, certainly couldn't have hurt their chances of enticing Corbin to come and play in Philadelphia.

Corbin, who has played his entire major league career for the Arizona Diamondbacks, joins a rotation in Washington that already includes three-time Cy Young Award victor Max Scherzer and Stephen Strasburg. The left-handed pitcher has an ERA of 3.91 during his six years in the Major League Baseball, all of which he has spent with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The change in name comes close on the heels of JSW Sports picking up a 50 percent stake in the franchise. They are the only side - among those that have featured in all editions - to have never made the final.

The 29 year-old lefthander is coming off a season in which he went 11-7 with a career low 3.15 ERA (70 ER/200 IP) and 1.05 WHIP.

In Corbin, the Nationals added arguably the most sought-after free-agent starting pitcher on the market this offseason.

According to Tim Dierkes, Corbin is expected to receive a six-year, $129.00 million contract, which is surprisingly a reasonable based on his performance last season. If Corbin goes to the Nationals, it would make you doubt they could also sign Harper to a monster deal.
