The crowd also torched a police outpost, police jeeps and a few private vehicles during the violence, Kumar said.

Subodh Kumar Singh was killed as police clashed with right wing Hindu groups who said police failed to halt the killing of cows in Uttar Pradesh state.

They alleged that they had found carcasses of cows earlier that day in the fields - videos, which soon began circulating on WhatsApp and social media, show a tractor with several carcasses blocking the road leading to the police station. "The crowd included Yogesh Raj (resident of Naya Bans), Vishal Tyagi (resident of Syana)... under their leadership around 50-60 men and women were protesting", reads the eye-witness account by sub-inspector Subhash Chandra, who is attached to the Syana police station.

According to The Indian Express, while responding to the pelting, the police open fired to scatter the mob.

Chandra's testimony is part of the second FIR filed in the mob violence that led to the deaths of Singh and a 22-year-old man.

Police are now looking for 24 others suspected to be involved in Monday's murder in Bulandshahr district.

A bulk of the second FIR is of Chandra's recollections of the almost two-hour ordeal.

DM Jha said, "Some people took the bodies of the animals and tried to block the road".

A mob of some 400 people, including right-wing activists, fought pitched battles with police on Monday in Siana area of Bulandshahr district, apparently after right-wing activists were angered by the discovery of cow carcasses strewn in a nearby jungle.

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi alleged that those fuelling violence in the name of the cow had been receiving full protection from the BJP and the RSS.

"My brother was killed in a conspiracy by the police as he was probing a cow slaughter case (the Akhlaq lynching case)", Sunita Singh told reporters Tuesday.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister has announced a financial assistance of Rs 40 lakh to the wife of Subodh Kumar Singh and Rs 10 lakh to his parents.

"They surrounded him and snatched his licensed pistol and three mobile phones, one of which had his official mobile number".

There was a report of a youth succumbing to injuries received in police firing, but there was no official confirmation. "We put injured SHO in an official vehicle but the mob again launched an attack". The police believe the mob came from these two places. Reportedly, the situation is tensed in the area, due to which heavy police force is deployed to maintain law and order.
