All 8 Cities And Stadiums Confirmed For New XFL Teams

On the heels of Tuesday's NHL expansion announcement, Seattle was announced as one of the eight inaugural cities to begin play when the new XFL football league kicks off in 2020.

In terms of selecting host cities for the XFL's first season, it was noted that more than 30 cities and venues expressed interest in participating, and that the league was looking for dedicated long-term partners rather than just a buildings to rent. It opened with the Governor of New Jersey, who introduced Vince McMahon. He said it's been 20 years since the original XFL was announced, and a lot of things have changed since then.

The XFL's New York City franchise will play its games at MetLife Stadium.

The XFL will play its games during the NFL's offseason and will "complement", not directly compete with the National Football League, he added. He said kickoff will be on February 8, and 9 in 2020, the weekend after the Super Bowl.

Luck stressed that the XFL will be "football reimagined" with "less stall, more ball".

It did not give details on how the league will be different than the NFL but said research is underway.

The XFL is officially coming to Seattle. The league is meant to complement fall football by giving fans football in the spring.

Luck said each team will have the same budget for team salaries and they will be offering "very competitive" wages.

Commissioner Luck emphasized that they are committed to "listening to the fans" and keeping each game well under three hours.

"We are proud to restore the River City's rightful place among pro football cities and we will not stop there", the XFL said in a statement.
