Urban Meyer stepping down at Ohio State

Late last month, it was reported that Urban Meyer would address his coaching future following the Big Ten championship game. Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will take over as Buckeyes coach beginning January 2.

The Urban Meyer coaching era at Ohio State will end with the Rose Bowl vs. Washington on January 1, the school confirmed for The Dispatch on Tuesday, and the Ryan Day era will begin in earnest.

Coach Meyer will be announcing his retirement at an afternoon press conference, and coach Ryan Day will be introduced as head coach.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports broke the news on Twitter Tuesday morning.

The letter was a damning indictment that Pakistan is yet to act to deal with the Taliban. Trump's request follows a month of often harsh presidential language about Pakistan.

Meyer, Day and Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith will discuss the decision at a news conference Tuesday at 2 p.m. ET.

"I plan on coaching", he said on October 29. Asked if he would definitely return to Ohio State next year, he answered, "Yes". This also isn't the first time Meyer has stepped away from coaching.

Add all of that to the battering Meyer's reputation took nationally over the Zach Smith situation and the coach's response to allegations of domestic abuse, and a growing number of observers wondered aloud how much longer Meyer will remain as The Head Coach at The Ohio State. That record includes a 65-15 run with the Gators and an 82-9 mark with Ohio State entering the Rose Bowl against Washington.
