Several Teams Considered Claiming Kareem Hunt on Waivers

A Gladstone man told Kansas City police that former Kansas City Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was among a group of men who punched him and temporarily knocked him unconscious during an altercation at a nightclub in the Power and Light District in January. The man identified one of these suspects as Hunt, KCTV-5 reports from police.

KCTV-5 reports a man told police he was inside the nightclub about 2 a.m. January 7 and was approaching the restrooms when he saw a friend being shoved by three people, one of whom he identified as now former Chiefs player George Atkinson.

The victim said he confronted Atkinson, who responded by punching him in the shoulder.

FOX4 reached out to the Chiefs, who declined to comment over the phone.

Hunt was also alleged to have punched a man at a OH resort in June, but TMZ reported the man said he was not injured and did not pursue charges. Police reports say the man initially did not want to report the incident, but his father and other relatives convinced him to tell police what happened. Again, no charges were filed and no video tape has surfaced.

The Warriors' coach was far more critical when it came to assessing his own performance in the defeat. Detroit have now won two consecutive games over Golden State - after losing 12 or their previous 13.

"The NFL's ongoing investigation will include further attempts to speak to the complainants involved in the incident", the league said in a statement Sunday. The NFL has been investigating the incident since that time, and he is now on the Reserve/Commissioner Exempt List. No arrests were made or charges filed in connection with the police report.

The video was published Friday by TMZ.

Just moments before the Chiefs made their announcement, the NFL placed Hunt on the exempt list, sidelining him while the league investigates. But the video shows Hunt knocking over and kicking the woman in the hotel's hallway.

Hunt spoke with ESPN about the incident for the first time publicly on Saturday where he told ESPN's Lisa Salters he was "in the wrong". Given that, Hunt's punishment could carry over well into next season.
