Refreshed 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT with new R Pro trim revealed

Drivers are also treated to a new steering wheel with more control buttons for various functions. This allows influencing the body dive and roll as the well as the traction of the AMG GT R PRO even more selectively. The tailpipe cover has been completely redesigned to match the shape of the AMG GT 4-door coupe.

The GT R Pro is the latest addition to Mercedes-AMG's sports auto lineup, with extreme track-ready features and carbon fiber bodywork.

The GT R Pro's new looks make no effort to hide this increased performance. More details on each model can be found on Mercedes-AMG's website. The carbon roof also gets a double bubble design. The carbon fiber chassis itself has also been stiffened at the rear to improve rigidity.

Mechanically, the AMG GT range remain largely unchanged.

Buyers of "lesser" AMG GT models will benefit from a host of small updates, including a now-standard 12.3-inch instrumentation screen, a grippier steering wheel design first seen in the GT four-door, revised LED headlight graphics, revised wheel designs, and a new rear bumper and diffuser.

The on-sale date hasn't yet been announced, but the 2020 Mercedes-AMG GT Coupe will still be available in GT (469 horsepower), GT C (550 horsepower) and GT R (577 horsepower) variants.

Mercedes-AMG has developed a set of new coilovers for the GT R Pro where the compression and rebound can be easily adjusted through a dedicated dial on the damper.

The front axle, meanwhile, gets an adjustable carbon-fiber torsion bar; the rear is hollow steel tube, also adjustable.

The new PRO shares its powertrain with the AMG GT R. It differs in what it offers for the suspension, aerodynamics and weight reduction packages.

The GT borrows its GT 4-door Coupe fastback sibling's new flat-bottom steering wheel with touch-sensitive buttons and galvanised paddle-shifters, plus two round displays with three buttons that switch between Dynamic Select driving modes and activate individual settings.

And the adjustable ride setting will be even sharper than before, with spherical bearings used in the upper wishbone joints that complement bearings already used in the lower joints. In the USA, Canada and China, the AMG GT R Pro is fitted with matte carbon-fibre trim elements and the boot brace in place of the Track Package. It has been done with standard-fit ceramic high-performance compound braking system exclusively with black painted brake callipers as well as by the AMG bucket seats made of clear-coated carbon fibre. There have been no changes to the GT engine line-up, meaning a base GT has 476hp, the GT S has 522hp and the GT C has 557hp, as before.
