PETA Blasts The Turkey Pardon: They Have Committed No Crime

President Trump's daughter and senior White House adviser, Ivanka Trump, reportedly used her personal email account for government business past year - which wouldn't be such a big deal had her father not made endless political hay out of his 2016 rival, Hillary Clinton, doing the same thing.

"Nevertheless. I will be issuing both Peas and Carrots a presidential pardon", Trump said of Democrats' possible interest in their testimony. A lucky turkey gets a presidential pardon. "I've never seen such a handsome turkey". Both Trump and first lady Melania Trump participated in the ceremony in the Rose Garden.

Peas was selected for the pardon in an online election conducted on the White House website.

While Trump delights in upending some White House traditions, he has gobbled this one up gamely, ignoring W.C. Fields' sage advice about the perils of working with animals. "This was a fair election", he continued.

"Unfortunately, "Carrots" refused to concede and demanded a recount", Trump joked but noted that the results of the election did not change. With their pink- and blue-skinned heads perched proudly over rotund, white-feathered bodies, the pair had traveled all the way from a farm in Huron, South Dakota, to receive a precious gift denied to most Thanksgiving birds - a stay of execution. "And I will tell you we've come to a conclusion".

Last year, Mr. Trump pardoned a turkey named Drumstick.

The turkey pardoning ceremony was not just for fun, however, as President Trump also took a moment to honor the men and women of the United States Armed Services.

"As many of you know, I've been very active in overturning a number of executive actions by my predecessor", Trump said previous year.

The first Presidential National Thanksgiving Turkey pardon took place in 1947, making today's celebration the 71st annual event.
