"It's been a lovely opportunity for me to reflect on my life in music and the incredible journey I have been on, and how first playing my grandmother's piano marks the moment when music came into my life".

Sir Elton John spoke about his feelings about the advert said, "The John Lewis Christmas campaign has so many warm memories for me and my family".

"We've been doing John Lewis Christmas ads for some time now and what's on my mind is how we move it on creatively but hold on to the heart of what makes them special", said Craig Inglis, the customer director at John Lewis & Partners.

The 2018 John Lewis Christmas advert stars a four-year-old boy as a young Elton John.

Featuring the singer's "Your Song", 2018's John Lewis Chrsitmas ad takes viewers through his glittering career, centring on Sir Reginald's greatest gift of all: his piano.

The ad first airs on television on Thursday at 9.15pm during ITV's Dark Heart, although ITV viewers may have noticed that the theme tunes to some of the channel's shows including Coronation Street and This Morning were played exclusively in piano notes on Wednesday to tease the advert's premiere.

In turn, that huge influx of cash has allowed clubs to spend millions on buying star players and paying them eye-watering wages. The proposal is likely to be put in front of the clubs this week and it would mean major changes in many sides.

Unconfirmed reports put Elton's fee around £5 million.

John Lewis" flagship store on London's Oxford Street also changed its name to just "John', and shoppers were convinced they had sussed the ad out ahead of its release.

It's not the first time Your Song has been used for the popular festive ad.

In 2010, Ellie Goulding covered the track for the John Lewis advert that year.

It featured a cover of the Beatles song Golden Slumbers which was performed by rock band Elbow.

A spokesperson from John Lewis told Express.co.uk: "So this Christmas, we will be selling pianos, so you can buy the gift".
