Ben Roethlisberger greeted with silence after texting Le'Veon Bell

Before Le'Veon Bell made it official he will not be suiting up for the Pittsburgh Steelers this season, Ben Roethlisberger reached out to the All-Pro running back via text. "He was a great teammate, a great football player".

Bell forfeited his $14.5 million franchise tag by failing to report to the team on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Ben Roethlisberger revealed that he texted Bell just before the deadline, but he never received a response back from him.

Bell no-showed for the league-imposed deadline on Tuesday. which ended his 2018 season before it even started.

With Bell's career in Pittsburgh nearly certainly over, it appears his teammates have moved on as well.

So on Wednesday, several Steelers players took it upon themselves to see if Bell had anything good in his locker. They removed his nameplate and began to take the items stored in it, dividing them up among each other.

Before practice, Roethlisberger told reporters he couldn't imagine sitting out a entire season like Bell has in his pursuit for a long-term contract.

"Part of the great thing about this sport is the band of brothers and the group of guys in here and being with them", Roethlisberger said. "That's what keeps me coming back".
