Samsung Galaxy S10 Tipped to Have a Display Hole, Triple Camera Setup

One thing we can be fairly sure of about the Samsung Galaxy S10 is that in most regions outside the United States it will be powered by Samsung's latest high-end Exynos chipset, and it's just been announced.

It's worth noting however that rival chipsets like the Kirin 980 in the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and the A12 Bionic in the iPhone XS are already 7nm, so could be even more efficient. The SoC also finally comes with an integrated NPU (Neural Processing Unit) to handle machine learning tasks. The other two clusters in the chipset include two cores of Cortex-A75 and four cores of Cortex-A55.

The series itself is expected to consist of three models, with the most affordable one reportedly marking Samsung's return to flat screens in the high-end segment of the market.

Samsung is touting a 20% increase in single-core performance or 40% higher efficiency, and a 15% uptick in multi-core performance from the Exynos 9810. The Exynos 9820 has the latest Mali-G76 GPU, which delivers a 40% performance boost from the Mali-G72 on the 9810. It'll also help power Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) applications. This will also keep the user's data secure.

That efficiency is built in from the ground up, as the Exynos 9820 is an 8nm chipset, which reduces power consumption by up to 10% compared to the 10nm Exynos 9810.

Another thing to note is that the Exynos 9820 does not support 5G because of the absence of a 5G modem. There are also going to be network connectivity features like 4×4 MIMO (Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output), 256-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and eLAA (enhanced Licensed-Assisted Access).

Apart from performance gain, the Exynos 9820 will bring the ability to shoot 8K video to its devices. And the Exynos 9820 will support encoding and decoding of 4K UHD video at 150 frames per second (fps) and renders colors in 10-bit.
