California Wildfires: death toll rises to 49 (official statement)

President Donald Trump has declared the fires a major disaster, freeing up federal funding for those affected by the blazes. "Please join me if you can".

A group of Bay Area lawyers filed a lawsuit Tuesday in San Francisco Superior Court against PG&E on behalf of several victims of the deadly Camp Fire in Butte County which has killed 48 people.

Butte County Sheriff Kory Honea told reporters the six bodies discovered Tuesday were found in homes. And we love you for that. I want to recover as many remains as we possibly can, as soon as we can. "Because I know the toll it takes on loved ones".

"Our hearts are with the communities impacted by the Camp Fire". And in shaa Allah, you will see more fires. As of Monday night, almost half of the evacuation centers in Chico, Oroville and nearby towns were at capacity.

The fire jumped the containment line Tuesday morning, sparking a flare-up in unburned canyons that wind pushed up Boney Mountain.

The Camp Fire has claimed 48 lives and 8,800 structures in Northern California, officials said Tuesday. But it added that dry conditions and steep terrain will continue to pose a challenge.

The Butte County Sheriff's Office released a list Wednesday of 103 people who have been reported missing since the Camp Fire erupted last Thursday, part of an effort to determine how many area residents actually are still unaccounted for and should be the subject of law enforcement searches. Overall, 10 sets of remains were found in Paradise and three in neighboring Concow. They include 13 coroner search recovery teams, 150 search and rescue personnel, cadaver dogs, two portable temporary morgue units, and a rapid DNA system.

The National Weather Service office in Los Angeles said there were wind gusts Tuesday of up to 33 miles per hour in the fire areas.

This fire has become the state's deadliest as more than 52,000 people have been evacuated and 1,385 are in shelters due to the Camp Fire.

Attacks on Jews accounted for 60 percent of all religion-based hate crimes, the highest of any targeted religious group. The report , released Tuesday, shows there was a almost 23 percent increase in religion-based hate crimes.

About 483 structures have been destroyed in the fire and another 57,000 remain threatened, according to Cal Fire.

The Ridgewood Mobile Home Park was among the areas nearly completely flattened by the fire.

One Malibu resident who didn't heed the evacuation order was 59-year-old Tony Haynes, who described how strong winds brought the fire through his neighborhood during the weekend, with the sky growing dark, saying there was so much smoke he put on his scuba-diving tank to breathe.

The new video from ABC7 show the Peak Fire burning right up to the edge of a busy Highway 118 in Ventura County, forcing passing motorists to drive in lanes as far from the highway shoulder as possible while firefighters battled the blaze.

"We're starting to get a handle on this fire", said Captain Brian McGrath of the Ventura County Fire Department in an online briefing. PG&E had no comment on the email, and state officials said the cause of the inferno was under investigation.

In its filing on Thursday with the state Public Utilities Commission, it said it had detected an outage on an electrical transmission line.

Thousands of firefighters battled blazes in northern and southern California on Tuesday as body recovery teams searched the remains of houses and charred cars for victims of the deadliest wildfire in the history of the USA state.

The Camp Fire's death toll has grown in staggering leaps.
