Bengals hire Hue Jackson as special assistant to Marvin Lewis

The Cincinnati Bengals have hired Jackson to join Marvin Lewis' coaching staff less than two weeks after he was sacked as the head coach of Cincinnati's in-state and AFC North rival, the Cleveland Browns.

"I'm pleased to have the opportunity to join the Bengals this season", Jackson said in a statement.

Lewis has taken over Cincinnati's defensive play-calling, following Monday's firing of defensive coordinator Teryl Austin, and Jackson is expected to help direct the offense.

"I got a plan", Lewis said.

Lewis laughed and smiled when reporters followed up and asked if Jackson could come in and help.

It's no secret that Jackson and Lewis have a fondness for each other that dates back many years.

If there is one thing that Hue Jackson can do, it's coach a game that ends with the Cleveland Browns losing. Jackson's title and role is not yet known Rapoport said.

The first sign that a major change was coming Monday morning came late in the first half of Sunday afternoon's historic thrashing by the Saints, when Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis turned his back to the action on the field, walked toward the benches and addressed the defense as a group. But having someone like Jackson, who knows all about the kind of football Cleveland plays, coaching the Bengals will give them an even bigger advantage.
