Public Health Department calls on everyone in Cayman to get flu vaccine

"He had no side effects and I felt better knowing that he was protected especially when I heard stories of people I know getting the flu, feeling really unwell and ending up in hospital over the Christmas period". "It contains antigens to H1N1, H3N1 and two of the B types".

"Getting the flu at any age is not a pleasant experience, but it can be a lot more serious for older people, those with under lying health conditions or young children who may suffer more if they contract the virus".

More than 80,000 people died from the flu past year in the United States. The vaccine offers important protection not only to the child, but also prevents the child passing the virus on to their family and the wider community, particularly protecting those at risk.

"The free flu vaccine will help protect your child from flu and also reduce the chance of it spreading on to others".

Smith says mostly seniors came to her pharmacy to get the vaccine a year ago, but stressed that anybody can get sick, even if they're completely healthy.

"The quadrivalent flu vaccine has about 20 percent more antigenic potency than the trivalent one", Bolden said in the release. There are other newer methods, like the cell-based flu vaccines, which was only approved since 2012, and the recombinant flu vaccines were approved in 2013.

Vijay-starrer Sarkar’s problem scenes to be cut?
Head of the Tamil Nadu Theatres Association Abirami Ramanathan confirmed to TNM about the cuts carried out in the movie. AR Murugadoss moved the Madras High Court on Friday which has given him protection from arrest till November 27.

"The great thing about T-cell immunity is it can recognize conserved parts of these viruses across many different strains", said McKinstry.

"We do know from the Southern Hemisphere, which is not always a ideal correlation, that it was a relatively quiet year for the Southern Hemisphere, and they were in an H1N1 year, which is included in this (year's) vaccine, so it could be a good match".

Aoki is in favour of people with both strong and poor immune systems in taking the vaccine, and says it's "the best tool we have".

If you think you may have the flu, stay at home and rest until you feel better.

He recommends that, in addition to getting the vaccine, those who want to avoid the flu this season should wash their hands after being in public, get proper rest and nutrition, drink the appropriate amount of water each day and not touch their hands to their face. Check with your primary care provider to see which pneumonia vaccine you may be due to receive. And, as reminder, having received a flu shot in March 2018 has nothing to do with this season.

Aoki says they don't have specific data on how many vaccines were actually given to patients, but the region estimates that most of the distributed vaccines have been used.
