Minnesota Timberwolves Trade Jimmy Butler to 76ers

The Jimmy Butler saga reportedly is over.

The disgruntled shooting guard/small forward, who demanded a trade from the Timberwolves in September, is heading back East. Minnesota reached a deal to send Butler and center Justin Patton to the 76ers for a package of Robert Covington, Dario Saric and a second-round pick, according to reports. That deal reportedly included Josh Richardson and a first-round draft pick.

Charania is reporting that the Sixers and Timberwolves will have a trade call on Monday to finalize the deal.

Butler requested a trade from the Timberwolves before the season began.

The 76ers add a four-time All-Star to an already promising roster headlined by Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. Well, according to a report by Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, it's something we can safely assume, as the sides reportedly expect to come to terms on an extension when Butler hits free agency this summer. Butler can sign a five-year max contract worth $190 million, while other teams could offer four years and a projected $141 million.

It brings to an end a almost two-month ordeal since Butler's desire to be traded first became public.

The package is pretty surprising considering the reported deal that almost brought Butler to Miami. Richardson, on the other hand, has already taken a massive leap on this young season and is now averaging 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.
