Who is Ian David Long, the suspected Thousand Oaks bar shooter?

The gunman was dressed in a black trench coat and wearing glasses when he walked into the bar filled with people enjoying a night of line dancing.

A next-door neighbor said he called authorities about six months ago when he heard loud banging and shouting come from the ranch-style home where Long and his mother lived. Authorities have not determined a motive for the shooting.

When the Las Vegas gunman opened fire from a 32nd-floor hotel room, Kelly said he threw a friend to the ground before helping get her out of the area and into a room. "It's something that I wish I was OK to do, but unfortunately I can't, so that's why I'm making sure that he gets remembered", King said.

Additional units, including SWAT personnel arrived on the scene minutes later and found 11 victims and the deceased gunman. "He stepped inside. It appears he turned to the right and shot several of the other security and other employees there. then began opening fire inside the nightclub", Dean said.

Helus was on the phone with his wife Karen when he got the call that there was a shooting.

The 28-year-old was on active duty with the marines from August 2008 to March 2013, CNN reported, citing the Department of Defense.

"They found people hiding in restrooms, people hiding in attics", Ventura County Sheriff Geoff Dean said.

"We will be sure to paint a picture of the state of mind of the subject and do our best to identify a motivation", Delacourt said, adding that the FBI would investigate any possible "radicalization" or links to militant groups. Dean said Helus undoubtedly saved lives by going in to confront the gunman.

It also marks the deadliest mass shooting in the country since 17 people were killed earlier this year at a high school in Parkland, Florida.

"Sergeant [Ron Helus] was on the force for 29 years, was looking to retire in the next year or so and has survived by his wife and son", Sheriff Dean said.

Several other people were wounded or sustained minor injuries trying to escape the shooting, Dean said.

Authorities have not released numerous victims' names but among those who have been confirmed are three men and one woman.

It was not immediately clear whether those victims had been shot.

President Donald Trump tweeted about the tragedy Thursday morning, thanking law enforcement for their bravery.

The first reports of shots fired came in around 11:15 p.m. California time Wednesday at the Borderline Bar & Grill about 40 miles west of Los Angeles.

As soon as the first round of bullets rang out at the Borderline Bar and Grill, Matt Wennerstrom sprung into action, grabbing a bar stool and throwing it through a window to free people to safety.

The bar, popular with students from Pepperdine College and California Lutheran University, was hosting a "college country night" and allows under-21s in on Wednesday nights. More than 100 people were inside the venue at the time of the attack.
