The Los Angeles County Fire Department tweets that the fire is headed to the ocean, punctuating the message with the declaration: "Imminent threat!"

The Los Angeles Police Department was placed on a citywide tactical alert early Friday to ensure all resources are available to assist with any evacuation orders and road closures prompted by the Woolsey Fire, according to a statement from the department.

Two wildfires raging west of Los Angeles have force thousands of people to leave their homes.

Several evacuation sites were giving protective masks for residents, Ventura County Emergency Services said, although there were no immediate reports of deaths or serious injuries.

The fire had crossed USA 101 a few miles east of Thousand Oaks - the site of Wednesday night's bar shooting massacre - and was headed south to the Pacific coast, in the direction of Malibu Creek State Park, the city of Malibu and Pepperdine University, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said. It reached the edge of Chico, a city of 90,000 people Thursday night.

One fire burned an area equivalent to thesize of a football field every second during a period Thursday into Friday.

More than 15,000 structures in Butte County remain threatened by the blaze, which continues to grow under "extreme fire and weather conditions", according to the latest incident report.

About two-thirds of the city of Malibu was ordered evacuated early Friday as a ferocious Southern California's wildfire roared toward the beachside community that is home for many Hollywood celebrities. Her deck provided a strong vantage point to monitor the spread of the fire.

Thirty-thousand people have been evacuated so far and the number of evacuees is expected to rise as embers push ahead of the fire.

Just 12 minutes after it started Thursday afternoon, the flames spread across USA 101, leaving several drivers temporarily stranded.

Residents took to social media to share their views of the flames almost consuming the hillside in Newbury Park, which borders Thousands Oaks to the west.

Multiple fires were reported at more than 10,000 acres with high rate of spread and mandatory evacuation orders in place as of 8 a.m. Friday, according to Cal Fire.

Fire officials have issued evacuation orders for homes in areas of Chico, Calif., which has a population of roughly 93,000 people.
