Defiant Trump blames media, fellow Republicans for House losses

But the GOP gained ground in the Senate and preserved key governorships, beating back a "blue wave" that never fully materialized.

President Donald Trump has hailed a "big victory" in USA mid-term elections after Democrats seized the House of Representatives but Republicans consolidated their grip on the Senate.

Blue-collar voters and rural America embraced his aggressive talk and stances.

He tweeted: "To any of the pundits or talking heads that do not give us proper credit for this great Midterm Election, just remember two words - FAKE NEWS!".

That means that the only obviously Trump-skeptical Republican to win a statewide race on Tuesday-the newly elected senator-to-be from Utah, Mitt Romney-may not have much leverage either.

Tuesday's elections also tested the strength of a Trump-era political realignment defined by evolving divisions among voters by race, gender, and especially education.

Democrats failed to defeat a vulnerable incumbent in Kentucky, where Republican Rep. Andy Barr won over former Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath.

Democrats boasted record diversity on ballots.

Sure, Democrats won the House of Representatives. He is also planning to push House Democrats to move a bill increasing the federal minimum wage.

Tammy Baldwin and the state's Democratic governor, Tony Evers.

Democrats were still waiting to hear how big their House majority would be, while Republicans were eyeing results in several Senate races that will determine how much they grow their numbers in the upper chamber. He even offered, perhaps sarcastically, to persuade Republican lawmakers to vote for her as speaker if some Democratic members refuse to support her.

Suburban districts outside Washington, Philadelphia, Miami, Chicago, Denver and Dallas were considered prime targets for turnover by the Democrats because they were won by Hillary Clinton in 2016.

Fossil's latest Wear OS smartwatch adds longer battery life for $255
As typical, there are two sizes to choose from - 41mm and 43mm - both of which come with a nylon and aluminium case. Fossil's new Sport smartwatch is its first device powered by the Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset .

Mr Trump also congratulated the new governor-elect of Florida Ron DeSantis, who fended off a challenge from the Democrats.

In the exit polls taken last night, Trump's approval rating was 44 favourable, 55 unfavourable. "Sorry about that, Mia".

If the White House doesn't block such requests in court, they could shed light on Trump's worldwide business empire - and what role it's playing in U.S. relations with the world.

If you were a gambler, you'd be on your way to the betting shop now to put your wager on Donald Trump's re-election in 2020.

Previous presidents who have suffered mid-term setbacks have professed humility and said they learned valuable lessons. Dems are on track to gain 11 House seats in these states including California, a state where the GOP didn't even have a Senate candidate on the statewide ballot this year.

Some hurt worse than others.

They had 90% national media support, were immensely funded in a midterm election that cost over $5 billion, and while they have a factionalized and rather narrow majority in the House, the president has turned the congressional Republicans, whose Senate leader (Mitch McConnell) was going to drop him like a hot rock less than three years ago, into lock-step loyalists of the White House. Voters scored Trump positively on the economy and for standing up "for what he believes in".

For the past two years, Republicans have subjected Trump to relatively little oversight, spurning most requests from the minority party.

The president bet big on a xenophobic closing message, warning of an immigrant "invasion" that promised to spread violent crime and drugs across the nation. If Mrs. Pelosi allows Nadler, Waters, and Schiff to run amok, no one should expect Mr. Trump to hold his fire.

One of Trump's most vocal defenders on immigration, Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach, lost his bid for governor. He served as vice chairman of Trump's now-defunct commission on voter fraud. Bill Nelson, but the race may end up in an automatic recount. So this was a five-point decline from what was already a low 2016 number. By the time the midterm rolls around, the popularity of the president (or lack thereof) is reflected on his party.

The majority party in the House controls nearly all of the subpoena power and other investigative tools. A handful of others played outsized roles in their parties' midterm campaigns, though not as candidates, and were reluctant to telegraph their 2020 intentions before the 2018 fight was decided.

They argue that such favors to Trump include Chinese government trademarks for his companies, payments for hotel room stays and event-space rentals by representatives of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, and proceeds from Chinese or Emirati-linked government purchases of office space in Trump Tower.
