He followed up her response by posting another Story saying, "Nothing but gratitude", the name of the song with the praise emoji and "those songs are fire tho. you're welcome". "It was meant v lovingly".

This whole "being nice to your ex" business seems to be going down really well with like, every single Ariana fan, and just look how it's bringing out the niceness in everyone, 2018 is the era of loving your ex, and it's kind of weird, but we like it! After listing her experiences with each boyfriend, Ariana sings "One taught me love / One taught me patience / And one taught me pain / Now I'm so unbelievable". She sings "Wish I could say, "Thank you" to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel".

The song's lyrics, "One taught me love, one taught me patience, one taught me pain", have everyone questioning which ex goes with which line.

It's unclear as to whether Davidson heard the song before it was released, however he did pay tribute to his ex fiancée on SNL over the weekend.
