Truex trying to keep focus on title shot after Logano bump

Harvick escalated past pole sitter Ryan Blaney in overtime Sunday succeeding the third resuming in the concluding 35 laps, to triumph the Texas fall race in a successive year in a row and haul one of the four championships professing spots for the season finale in two weeks.

However, Almirola now trails the Championship 4 cut line by 57 points, meaning that he must win the final race of the round of 8, the Can-Am 500, at ISM Raceway in order to advance to the Championship 4.

Harvick warrants his shot at NASCAR cup title with victory in Texas. O'Donnell called the mistake "unacceptable" and promised system upgrades before this weekend's penultimate race of the season at Phoenix.

After restarting on the inside on two late-race restarts, Harvick went up top for the overtime restart and secured his eighth win of the season.

Truex has a 25-point cushion on the current playoff cutoff going into the second race of the three-race third (semifinal) round of the Cup playoffs, ESPN notes.

Kevin Harvick won for the 8th time and advanced to the Championship Four at Homestead.

By this time, Martin Truex Jr. had moved into fifth after starting at the rear due to a pre-race engine change.

A caution with 38 laps to go created an interesting kink in the pit strategy of many who debated whether or not to pit for tires and fuel, that being the looming question mark throughout Sunday's race. Chase Elliott and Aric Almirola, who had gone to the back of the field for the start because of unapproved body modifications, rounded out the top 10. Aric Almirola (eighth Sunday) and Clint Bowyer (26, after contact with Denny Hamlin's Toyota on Lap 1) are both in must-win situations. "When Homestead comes around if I am not in, he will know it". We lapped the same lap cars every three laps.

Detectives ultimately found Cleavenger's body in her burial site at River City Church in the early-morning hours Saturday. Chitwood said the boy is one of the "top three sociopaths" he has ever encountered, calling him a "soulless individual".

"When that type of stuff happens, you see scenarios like that, you have to be real with yourself to say that these are scenarios that you better enjoy because they probably won't last forever".

Harvick was on the inside again for the next restart, but Blaney was able to get by him for the lead. Truex is among seven playoff contenders, including all four Stewart-Haas Racing drivers starting in the top seven, who would claim a championship-contending spot with a win Sunday. We got by him one restart and I just couldn't hold him off. ...

But the gritty Truex eventually got one lap back and when a caution came out on Lap 296 he was back on the lead lap as the Free Pass recipient.

"I think he was a little frustrated and that is part of it". "It's inevitable, and it's not a ideal scenario, it's not what we all wanted, but I think everybody on the team has done an unbelievable job of focusing in on the right things and continue to perform at a high level".

"We were a third place vehicle and that restart there where we finally were in position we fought all day from the back and started at the tail and worked diligently all day to get up to the front and finally got ourselves in position to at least have a shot and race with those guys", Almirola said of the final restart of the day.

Jimmie Johnson was sent to the rear of the field after the No. 48 Chevrolet twice failed prerace inspection. Johnson and crew chief Chad Knaus are making their 600th start together.

Harvick now has eight victories in 2018, and 45 in his career.
