Celtics' Kyrie Irving fined $25,000 by National Basketball Association for throwing ball into stands

Celtics' Kyrie Irving fined $25,000 by National Basketball Association for throwing ball into stands

Irving airmailed the ball after Nuggets guard Jamal Murray, sitting on 48 points, attempted to reach the 50-point plateau in the waning moments of Monday night's game.

Despite missing it, Kyrie Irving was not happy with Murray's decision.

To be fair to Irving, he praised Murray's performance, and after the game, veterans on Murray's team gave him a talking to about taking that final shot. "He did it in a great fashion against us", Irving said of Murray's offensive show. I just had in my mind that I was going to go 50, and I think everybody kind of understood that was what I was trying to do. "He was a primary concern tonight and he made us pay in certain instances of just making some tough shots and some tough layups".

Most players don't get many opportunities to put a 50 in the box score, so the 22-year-old Murray chose to make the most of his chance as the clock wound down.

Still irked following the game, Irving explained his actions.

Much of the final stretch of the race was consumed by a bitter battle over race and access to the polls . Lewis said to supporters at the rally that they should tell everyone they know to go vote.

"But the ball deserves to go in the crowd after a bulls**t move like that".

"I really wasn't meaning no disrespect". A point guard, even one like Murray who hardly falls in line with the traditional mold of the position, is supposed to pass, at least from time to time.

Murray was on fire shooting 19-for-30 from the field, tying Steve Nash's 48 in the 2005 playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks for the highest scoring output by a Canadian in the National Basketball Association. "It was just, my emotions took over and that's how I get sometimes when I get going".

Murray entered Monday night ranked fourth on the team in points at 15.7 per game.

The Nuggets and Celtics play one more time in the regular season, this time in Boston on March 18, 2019 - a date the Celtics and their fans have probably now circled on their calendars.
