One person dead, another missing in the United States after Amazon building collapse

The fire department says one person is dead and another was unaccounted after a weather-related building collapse at an Amazon distribution warehouse on Baltimore's southeast side, the Baltimore Sun reports.

"Severe weather damaged one of our facilities in Baltimore City".

Fire officials responded to a call about a potential collapse of the Amazon Fulfillment Center building at around 10:30 p.m. on Friday night.

Baltimore fire chief Roman Clark initially said one person was dead at the hospital and another missing, but the missing person was found dead under heavy debris early Saturday morning.

Amazon employee Brandon McBride, who was at the warehouse at the time of the wall collapse, told 11 News that "It just sounded like bombs were dropping everywhere" and said that 'There was stuff falling everywhere, you could see the walls were caving in'.

Afghan forces struggle to regain ground as casualties mount
Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said that more than 1,000 "Afghan lads" had been killed or wounded in August and September only. In terms of the Afghan population, Kabul controls or influences 65.2 percent, the same amount as a year ago, AFP reported.

Farther west, roof damage to several buildings - along with numerous downed trees - were reported in Mount Airy, Maryland, said Lam.

The National Weather Service will have to determine if weather was ultimately a cause in the collapse, CBS Baltimore reports.

Amazon's senior vice president of operations Dave Clark said in a tweet Saturday that there were two fatalities at the site. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to those impacted by yesterday's tragic event".

Amazon closed the entire building following the wall collapse.

Officials are unaware of any other injuries but are continuing to assess the scene.
