Rooney to make England swansong vs. USA

Wayne Rooney is set to come out of worldwide retirement for England's friendly against the United States later this month to mark his contribution to the national team.

Rooney has been in good form with MLS club side DC United, scoring 12 times to help lift the team from the bottom of the table into the play-offs.

But there are rumours that the former Manchester United striker is in line to return to the Three Lions fold as a one-off in the friendly clash with U.S. at Wembley on November 15.

The worldwide friendly, set to take place on November 15, has been dubbed The Wayne Rooney Foundation global and some of the proceeds from the game will go towards the Manchester United great's charity.

The Wembley Arch will be lit up in the gold colours of Rooney's charity.

He said: "It was great that Gareth Southgate called me this week to tell me he wanted me back in the England squad for the upcoming matches".

Lewis Hamilton has 'no idea' why Mercedes F1 team is now struggling
A fifth title for Hamilton places him equal with Juan-Manuel Fangio on the all-time world champion honours list. I think that his ability of combining talent with hard work, intellect and emotional intelligence.

Although Harry Kane is the current England captain, he will give the armband over to Rooney for the special occasion.

Neither Podolski nor Sneijder were out of global football for as long as Rooney, 33, who announced his England retirement in August 2017 after turning down the chance to be part of the squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Malta and Slovakia. "It's fitting that the match will be against the US and I hope that both sets of fans enjoy the game".

He scored his last goal for his country against Iceland in the Three Lions' 2-1 defeat at Euro 2016 that saw them eliminated in the round-of-16 and won his final cap later that year in November, in a 3-0 victory over Scotland.

Rooney retired from global duty in August 2017 as England's record goalscorer, while he has won more caps than any other outfield player.

The game will serve as a final chance for Southgate to fine-tune ahead of England's Nations League crunch match with Croatia on Sunday November 18.

The team went out on penalties to Columbus Crew.
