Project Through PoK, IMF Bailout Tops Agenda As Imran Khan Reaches China

The Prime Minister said as the main point of PTI's manifesto was to bring people out of poverty it was one area where he looked forward to meeting with Chinese leadership and learn from all the steps taken to take people out of poverty.

On the sidelines of Shanghai forum, the prime minister will hold meetings with other world leaders as well as the leaders of Chinese financial and corporate sector.

PM Khan was received at Beijing Airport by China's Minister for Transport Li Xiaopeng, Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, and other senior government officials.

While Pakistan's Commerce and Trade Advisor Abdul Razzak Dawood told the Financial Times that some of the agreements were unfair to Pakistani companies and should be put on hold for a year, the country's Railway Minister Sheikh Rashid said that Pakistan wants to cut the size of the United States dollars eight billion Karachi-Peshawar rail line, the biggest project under the so-called "CPEC", by USD two billion.

President Xi Jinping, while welcoming the prime minister, said that Pak-China relations have already been strengthening, and have now gained momentum.

The Prime Minister, who left on a four-day official visit to China said that low crime was easy to check but tackling white collar crime needed speciality and expertise which Pakistan was struggling. They reviewed the progress of CPEC, expressed satisfaction on its achievements, and undertook for its early completion to maximize the benefits for Pakistan. He was accompanied by Foreign Minister, Finance Minister, Minister for Railways, Minister for Planning, Advisor to PM on Commerce and Chief Minister Balochistan.

The prime minister hailed China's reform and opening up policy which provides Chinese industries a better environment to develop and compete in global trade. Pakistani media reports have claimed that the bus service is part of the CPEC.

The Prime Minister said China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) had given a great opportunity to Pakistan to bring in foreign investment and to get out of the hard economic situation it was facing.

However, the cricketer-turned-politician, during his first visit to China, is expected to seek more Chinese loans to avoid approaching International Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout package.
