Maulana Sami-ul Haq Killed In Rawalpindi

Maulana Sami Ul-Haq was stabbed and shot by unknown killers in an attack at his home in central Punjab province in Pakistan.

He was also the head of Darul Uloom Haqqania seminary in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Akora Khattak, Dawn reported.

The prominent religious scholar was reportedly killed in a targeted attack while he was resting in his room at his Bahria Town residence.

Speaking to the television channel, Hamidul Haq said Maulana Samiul was unable to participate in the protests against Asia Bibi's acquittal by the Supreme Court in a blasphemy case. "Later, he was found dead in a pool of blood", Hamid ul-Haq told Geo News.

Army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa condemned the assassination and expressed condolences with the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has strongly condemned the martyrdom of Maulana Sami-ul-Haq.

The prime minister sought a report and directed that an investigation be carried out immediately to find the perpetrators. He said that Haq's services would always be remembered.

A security guard of Sami ul Haq also has sustained serious injury, the report said.

He has twice been a member of the Senate of Pakistan from 1985 to 1991 and again from 1991 to 1997. The PTI also gave him ticket for the 2018 Senate election, but he could not be elected to the upper house.
