Nintendo announces final two characters of 'Super Smash Bros. Ultimate'

One of the major revelations from the Direct was that there are no trophies in the game, unlike all the previous Smash Bros.

Nintendo announced two new characters today during its Super Smash Bros.

It looks like Nintendo will be drip-feeding new characters in paid DLC, with current plans for five add-on packs each with a brand-new fighter, new fighting stage, and additional bonus tracks to underscore the action.

You'll get a free DLC taster in the form of Piranha Plant from Super Mario Bros., but only if you buy the game before January 31. The presentation stated that it may take a year for all of the DLC characters to debut in the game.

Nintendo also promised future expansions of more characters through downloadable fighter passes.

Additionally, these "spirits" will also be used to power up your added amiibo fighters.

"Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" is the fifth installment in the popular brawler series.

Instead there are collectable objects called spirits, with the main story mode revolving around all the Nintendo characters (except apparently Kirby) becoming merely disembodied souls. "Ultimate" world map and adventure mode. Players will be able to post and watch gameplay videos and check statistics in the app.

The online mode will try to prioritize finding opponents that are nearby, and Nintendo recommends buying an Ethernet adapter for the Switch to get more stable connections. It includes every playable character from the franchise to-date, along with several newcomers like "Metroid's" Ridley, "Splatoon's" Inkling, and "Animal Crossing's" Isabelle. It also announced Spirits would replace collectible trophies.
