Google introduces multiplayer ghost game with new Doodle

The game's more than just a fun way to while away the working hours, though.

The search engine giant Google dedicated doodle to Halloween day on Tuesday.

Google's got a Halloween doodle on its website that turns into a ghostly game of capture the flag.

Google hasn't said how long it will keep the game up for but it's a fair bet it won't be around long after Halloween.

You can even receive power-ups like speed boosts and night vision by picking up turning in enough spirit flames, and you'll see just how well you did relative to the other players when the match comes to an end. Today's doodle is a little different.

Trump Says Birthright Citizenship Issue Will Go to Supreme Court
Ho, who was appointed by Trump to the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. This case will be settled by the United States Supreme Court!" he added.

Finally, Google wants to remind us that its image search is a great place to go for pumpkin carving inspiration.

Up to eight people can compete in a multiplayer, interactive Google Doodle.

The team built several systems to enable this multiplayer gaming, all running on the Google Cloud Platform, including a highly-scalable matchmaker service by Open Match, an open source framework developed jointly by Google Cloud and Unity.

Getting to grips with the game is relatively straightforward. You can do the same to the other team's players, and whichever team collects the most flames in two minutes wins. Hence, there's a nice sprinkling of mechanical tension between collecting as many spirits as you can before returning to your base, and avoiding having them cheekily swept up by an opponent. However, with that come risks.

In the game, you play a cute ghost whose objective is to collect "Spirit Flames". You can play it in your browser with mouse or keyboard controls, and it also works fine on mobile devices. At the start of a new game, click "Host Game". Hosting gives you a special link you can share with friends so they can join your game.
