Wayne Rooney insists Manchester United players must step up to win titles

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho gestures on the touchline during the English Premier League match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in London.

Marco Ianni has been fined £6,000 by the Football Association for provoking Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho during a Premier League game with Chelsea last week.

Mourinho was incensed by the way Ianni celebrated the goal in front of the United bench, leading the former Chelsea boss to dart off his seat and a melee to ensue.

Coming on a weekend where rumours had begun to swirl regarding Mourinho's imminent departure from Manchester United, the result against Rafa Benitez's Newcastle granted the Portuguese an extended stay of execution.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited Rotorua's Te Papaiouru Marae on the final day of their New Zealand tour. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex then spent more than their allotted 30 minutes meeting the crowds outside.

Mourinho's decision to appeal the initial charge, which could have seen him face a touchline ban, meant he was present for United's 2-2 draw with Chelsea, the Champions League defeat to Juventus and Sunday's 2-1 win over Everton.

Chelsea assistant coach Marco Ianni was fined £6,000 after admitting a charge of improper conduct after sparking the incident. "I know very well the man, so I am sure". "I don't think he deserves more than what he got", Mourinho said.

Mourinho, although incensed at the time, immediately accepted Ianni's apology after the full-time whistle. Along with club legend Gianfranco Zola, he is one of two assistant first-team coaches. I think he deserves a second chance.

"The assistant has already come to me and apologised. I don't know the consequences, but we were wrong so we have to accept the consequences".
