Tyler Perry is Done Playing Madea after 20 Years

Perry told the interviewer that he filmed her Funeral film two years ago, and he's finally ready to say goodbye to the character.

For the past 20 years, Perry, an actor, producer and director, has played the role of Madea, a gun-carrying, profanity-spouting grandmother who isn't afraid to throw hands when and if necessary or voice her opinion regardless of whose ox is gored.

"It's time for me to kill that old b****, I'm exhausted, man", he said.

Tyler (born Emmitt) is arguably one of the hardest working men in show business creating plays, TV shows, and movies out of his 330-acre former military base, Tyler Perry Studios. "I just don't want to be her age, playing her".

Then earlier this month, he told the US Today show that he wished he could have suffered for his son instead. Buble had a rough year coping with his son's cancer diagnosis . "It's weird.

Mabel Earlene "Madea" Simmons first appeared on stage nearly 20 years ago and went on to be the star of several of Perry's hit films.

Spanning 10 installments, the Madea film franchise has garnered more than $500 million worldwide. The character is known to use comical and vulgar language, and has a litany of criminal offenses, which was especially highlighted in 2009's "Madea Goes to Jail".

The final film also coincides with Perry's Lionsgate deal coming to a close. Perry has signed a deal with Viacom that will see him producing content across television, film, and short-form video platforms.
