Ford GT Carbon Series revealed

Ford GT Carbon Series revealed

Overall, Ford says the Carbon Series has more exposed carbon fiber than any other version of the GT.

The GT Carbon Series will account for one of the seven GTs Ford will build each week going forward. Radio, air conditioning, and SYNC 3 have all been retained at the request of the customers, but Ford's removed the cup holders and driver's side storage bin to take away more weight.

For convenience, Ford decided not to drop the use of technologies like air conditioning, radio and SYNC 3, which would have made the vehicle even lighter, but did remove the cupholders and the driver's side seat storage bin.

Following Ford's announcement that it would make an additional 350 units of the GT, the Blue Oval has now released another iteration of the sportscar called the GT Carbon Series.

The rest of the weight savings comes from the carbon-fiber wheels, titanium exhaust and lug nuts, and a polycarbonate rear hatch. Hopefully most of the new ones will be the new GT Carbon Series, which is lighter than the normal GT but not lighter than the GT Competition Series.

The name starts to make a little more sense if you take a close-up look at the vehicle, where you'll see stripes that expose the carbon under the paintwork, along with naked carbon A-pillars and lower body panels.

Inside, the vehicle sports a Carbon Series badge on the instrument panel, a unique seat pattern, silver stitching on the seats and steering wheel, clear anodized paddle shifters, and matte carbon fiber for the sills, air register pods, and center console. Regardless of this choice, all will get a unique seat pattern with silver stitching that is repeated on the steering wheel.

Quotable: "This is just another example of how we listen to our customers at Ford", said Ford Performance Marketing Manager, Lance Mosley, in the company's release. Inside the cabin, look for special Carbon Series badges and various red accents.
