Trio of big earthquakes strike off coast of Vancouver island

A trio of large earthquakes struck within an hour of each other late Sunday night, followed by three smaller quakes, off Vancouver Island, about 275 miles west of Bellingham.

Previous USGS reports said a quake measured at 6.6 magnitude also hit the region.

The USGS did not predict damage from the quakes, only saying it could be felt lightly along the coast.

It is believed that the first quake struck at a depth of 21 miles.

There is no tsunami threat Monday morning after six earthquakes struck off the coast of British Columbia overnight.

Several powerful earthquakes have been reported near Vancouver Island, Canada, including a magnitude 6.8.

He was back in goal after sitting out a victory over Los Angeles on Monday night because of a minor knee injury. There's a lesson learned in that. "They didn't run around, they just played smart and didn't force anything".

British Columbia, like the rest of western North America, is located on the Pacific "Ring of Fire" that encircles the Pacific Ocean, the world's most seismically active area.

The second stronger quake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, occurred 122 miles southwest of the Canadian town more than half an hour later, at 11:16pm.

The earthquake's location was pegged at 208 kilometres west-southwest of Port Alice, and 478 kilometres west of Vancouver.

Aftershocks are already following the terrifying wave of earthquakes, with a 4.9 magnitude tremor hitting the area at 7.36am BST.

And a tsunami warning hasn't been set in place at the moment.
