Manchester City had 'best first-half performance' in three years - Pep Guardiola

Manchester City began to pull their weight like proper Champions League heavyweights when they became the first English team to win at Shakhtar Donetsk in European competition with a 3-0 win in their group F match in Kharkiv on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's side rarely looked troubled in Ukraine, with goals from David Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Bernardo Silva securing a comfortable victory at the Metalist Stadium.

But any remote threat of a comeback was extinguished when Mahrez teed up Bernardo Silva for a measured bottom-corner finish 20 minutes from time, while the crossbar kept Raheem Sterling from adding further damage in the dying moments. "Our first half was the best first-half performance we have played in the last three seasons", Guardiola, who joined City at the start of the 2016-17 campaign, told reporters.

"We were under a lot of pressure after the defeat by Lyon but now we are in a good position". They made the game so hard but I think we controlled the game so well - especially on the counter attacks. We have recovered [from defeat to Lyon] with the result in Germany and here. We have to be solid as a team, like we were in the first half, and it was good to see how we did it.

After a dominant start to the fixture, captain David Silva volleyed City into the lead on 30 minutes.

'It was an unbelievable result. They pushed us a lot and they always have talented players. "Win our games at home and we will be in the next stage".

The Titanic Plans to Set Sail Again in 2022
It will welcome 2,400 passengers and 900 crew members, which is nearly the exact same number on board the boat that sank in 1912. The Titanic II has been in the works since 2012, when the plan was first announced by Australian business tycoon Clive Palmer.

The Premier League champions did not enjoy their last visit to Ukraine, having been beaten 2-1 in December a year ago and will not want a repeat of that result.

And with City moving ahead of Lyon into first place, the boss wants to ensure we hold on and progress to the next stage as group winners.

"If they are here it is because they are ready to play", said the Spaniard.

'I think we area playing better every game. we have to keep improving a little bit more but we're in a good way.

And De Bruyne says he is happy to be back and in good shape after his spell on the sidelines.
