Patriots hang on to beat Bears

In a 38-31 loss to the Patriots on Sunday at Soldier Field, the Bears came up just short on the scoreboard.

The linebacker is questionable for the contest after missing the first two days of practice.

"I thought I could have put it out there a little further", Trubisky said. "Just getting ready for the game". Instead, the defense allowed the Patriots to gain 6.0 yards per play and failed to adjust against Brady's quick release. He's a pro. He's one of the best at it. We're still gonna make a run at this thing. "He knows that, the defense knows that, and we each have to get this win - with or without whoever we have on the field".

If there is anything that's remained consistent in an era of change for the Bears, it has been the aforementioned defense.

"We all know he's not 100 percent", Nagy confirmed.

There were many turnovers and many untimely penalties.

Again, he completed almost 70 percent of his passes for 277 yards, 3 touchdowns and one interception* without Gronk and mostly without Michel to carry the load on the ground. They were pushing and we were pushing.

"It was real hard to handle". "I think collectively as a group, we showed that we can hold our own without him, but we'll be glad to have him back". "Understanding that it's up to us to get it done and be ready to answer the challenge this week". If we do a bit of revisionist stat work and adjust his interception total to four, his new passer rating through seven games is 104.7 - putting him within four points of his rating through the same number of games in 2017.

The Bears (3-3) played sloppy in all three phases of their game. "Kind of an unusual game with a lot of big plays".

The absence of Gronkowski, arguably the most dominant tight end in the National Football League, might have an impact on New England's ability to move the ball deep downfield.

Gordon played 61 of the Patriots' 64 snaps (95 percent) on offense on Sunday - as well as the final three of the game on defense as a deep safety while the Bears tried a late Hail Mary pass that nearly worked.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski didn't make the trip to Chicago with the team as he continues to deal with a back injury.

There were times when the Patriots looked magnificent on Sunday.

The versatile tight end has 26 catches for 405 yards and a touchdown in six games this season. Stephen Gostkowski tied the game, 24-24, at 7:52 of the third. He also led New England with 40 yards rushing. Perhaps the Patriots are one of the few teams who can pull off this type of transformation, insulated with Brady, Belichick, Edelman and a host of accountable players and coaches to help keep Gordon on the straight and narrow after years of issues well before he ever came to the NFL.
