Mauricio Pochettino says Tottenham must beat PSV to prove title credentials

The Argentine winger was preferred to fit-again playmaker Christian Eriksen by manager Mauricio Pochettino and repaid that faith with a first-half victor, heading in a cross from Moussa Sissoko.

"It was a good time for us (the global break) because we are going to recover a few players like Christian and Mousa Dembele", Pochettino said.

Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Jan Vertonghen all remain out. "We need more. I think we are so competitive over the last four-and-a-half-years, but to win a title is the last step, to push the team and the club".

"Christian is ready again to compete and to play".

"It will be a tough month of competition for us".

It was one of several notable moments from the hard-working Sissoko, and Pochettino was upbeat about Spurs fans starting to go easier on him following a hard start to life at the club.

Turkey to Publicize Details From Its Investigation Into Jamal Khashoggi's Killing
Authorities did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what prompted the decision to give her a security detail. He said the Saudis did not know how Khashoggi , a Saudi national and US resident, had been killed or where his body was.

"We wanted to sign people". He is my boss, he is the owner of the club.

"It was hard to achieve the player we needed", Pochettino said.

"I am not happy with that because we are fifth in the table and the ambition is to be on the top but, at the same time, we are realistic and with all the circumstances we suffered in the summer with the World Cup and everything".

"If you say to me we were so clever because we didn't sign anyone, and now after nine games it's the best ever start in Premier League for the club, I'm not going to be that type of person who is going to say "yes we are geniuses". But I need to remind everyone that it is our [joint] best start after eight games - it is the best start in the Premier League for Tottenham". "The perception changed when we lost to Inter Milan and Barcelona in the Champions League but we have one more point (in the Premier League) than last season", Pochettino said.

Here, in a battling but ultimately effective performance against a combative West Ham United, it was players such as Erik Lamela, making his first league start of the season, and the lesser-spotted Moussa Sissoko who made the difference.

"He also said that transfers were complicated with several variables so it was not possible to work out in advance how much you could spend in a given window".
