Major London rail hub suffers disruption

Lines had been closed, and all trains cancelled between London Paddington and Reading due to the damage to the overhead electric wires on that section of the line.

The disruption caused mayhem across the Great Western Railway (GWR), which serves Bristol, Cardiff and the West Country, with a significantly reduced service across the network and all trains terminating at Reading.

Network Rail said that "extensive damage" to four overhead power cables along a 500m-stretch of track in Ealing on Tuesday night was to blame for the disruption.

"Owing to the extent of the damage, no trains are expected to be able to operate between London Paddington and Hayes & Harlington in either direction for much of Wednesday".

TRAIN services to and from London Paddington have been partially restored after damage to overhead wires prevented travel into the station this morning.

Great Western Railway were hoping to run a "near normal" morning peak-hour service between Reading and London Paddington. "We advise only to travel if necessary".

As passengers look to find alternative routes, South Western Railway told its customers their trains in and out of London would be "very busy" as a result of more people using their services.

This morning's issues come after commuters faced major delays on Tuesday evening as electricity supply problems caused delays and cancellations on a number of busy routes in and out of London.

"A rail replacement bus service is now operating between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport. No one is held to account for poor service", she said. Services from London Paddington will depart at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour.
