MLB Postseason 2018: 3 takeaways from NLDS Game 5

For all the criticism the Los Angeles Dodgers have taken for a heavy reliance on the home-run ball, they awoke from a bit of a slumber in enough key moments for a 5-2 victory that began to feel like more of a rout of the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 5 of the National League Championship Series. Max Muncy single to left field, sending Manny Machado to second and scoring Justin Turner.

Taylor's hustle in running to first, which helped cause the error, advancing to second and then stealing third was nearly infectious, as a series of little things helped the Dodgers win a second consecutive playoff game without hitting a home run. Once the score was tied, however, Kershaw batted for himself and would end up pitching eight innings, giving up only three hits and one run. The NLCS will resume in Milwaukee on Friday with the Dodgers in control, following their 5-2 victory in Game 5. What's most important is how badly Bellinger needed the hit amid his slump; he had been 1-for-21 in the postseason prior to Tuesday night. Hyun-Jin Ryu will go for the Dodgers. "I have a lot of respect for him as a player, but you can't respect someone who plays the game like that". However, that changed in a 32-pitch third when the bottom of the Brewers' lineup again proved to be problematic.

Despite struggling on offense for almost three full games at Los Angeles, the Dodgers still managed consecutive victories, taking Game 4 on Tuesday by a 2-1 score in 13 innings. Milwaukee got only two runners to third base, none after the seventh inning.

Kenley Jansen got the final out to earn the save.

Machado allowed his left leg to clip the lower right leg of Aguilar at first base while getting thrown out on a routine play in the 10th.

After Pedro Baez worked a 1-2-3 eighth inning, Caleb Ferguson was used to retire Christian Yelich for the first out in the ninth. Fighting through a two-strike count, Muncy lined a ball to the opposite field, through a hole at shortstop, to drive in Turner with the go-ahead run. "Everything that happens on the field stays on the field". He went seven strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits with nine strikeouts.

Milwaukee relief pitcher Brandon Woodruff had come into the game for Wade Miley, who faced one batter in the first inning before heading to the dugout, and was dominating. He didn't factor in the decision either time.

The Brewers are starting Hernan Perez at second base, his first start since Game 1 of the series. The Brewers will counter with left-hander Wade Miley, who held the Dodgers scoreless over 5 2/3 innings in Game 2.
