First Lady Melania Trump's official plane was forced to make an unexpected landing this morning amid reports of an onboard fire.

According to the press pool traveling with Trump, about 10 minutes after the plane took off, reporters could see a thin haze of smoke and the smell of something burning.

The smoke dissipated and the aircraft returned without further incident. A spokeswoman said the first lady was "fine" after the "minor mechanical issue" aboard her plane.

The entourage held wet towels over their faces until the plane touched down safely at the military base.

Trump was on her way to the Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia to meet with families affected by neonatal abstinence syndrome.

News reported that the plane turned around and landed at Joint Base Andrews.

The first lady's plane was heading to Philadelphia for an event discussing opioid addiction.

The visit was to be one of her stops as she promotes her "Be Best" campaign, which focuses on issues affecting children, including the importance of healthy pregnancies.
