Air India crew member falls off plane, hospitalised

A flight attendant fell out of an Air India plane while trying to close its door on Monday (Oct 15), the airline said, reportedly breaking her leg when she landed on the tarmac.

"The woman crew member was closing the door for the push back when she fell from the aircraft", a source told the Press Trust of India, and identified the plane as AI 864, a Delhi-Mumbai flight.

An Air India flight attendant sustained multiple injuries after falling out of an airplane as she prepared for boarding.

Air India added that it was investigating the incident.

The BBC is reporting that Harsha Lobo suffered fractured legs and other injuries from the fall after she was preparing the plane for departure.

According to reports, Harsha Lobo is undergoing treatment at Mumbai Hospital.

A "catastrophe" could have occurred if the flight had continued any longer, Hindustan Times reported. The airline is now looking into whether the incident was caused by a technical snag or pilot error.

Last week, a Dubai-bound Air India Express flight, IX 611, struck a wall at the end of Trichy airport's runway during take-off. An official statement by the Air India over the incident is awaited.

The pilots, unaware of the accident, took off as scheduled and flew for around three hours, until they realized the aircraft had been damaged and the made an emergency landing at Mumbai.

Besides B777, it will also operate its 423-seater, double-decker Boeing 747 aircraft to Mumbai and Kolkata from New Delhi, starting Tuesday as part of this strategy. "The matter is under investigation", an Air India spokesperson said.
