Trump Warning over Missing Writer Crashes Saudi Stocks by 7.0 Percent

Khashoggi entered the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2 regarding documents for his planned marriage, but Turkish officials and his fiancee, who was waiting outside, said he never came out.

'There needs to be a credible investigation to establish the truth about what happened, and - if relevant - to identify those bearing responsibility for the disappearance of Jamal Khashoggi, and ensure that they are held to account. However, Apple Watches do not have a fingerprint ID unlock function like iPhones.

However, it was not clear whether data from Khashoggi's watch could have been transmitted to his phone outside, or how investigators could have retrieved it without obtaining the watch themselves.

Trump has praised the Saudi regime for cracking down on opponents and his son-in-law, Jared Kushner, has personal ties to crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

"I actually think we'd be punishing ourselves if we did that", Trump told reporters at the White House.

Separately, sources inside Saudi Arabia said that any punitive measures directed its way would generate larger counter-measures.

Saudi King, Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited self-exiled former President of the Maldives, Mohamed Nasheed, who is now living in the United Kingdom after being granted political asylum there, to Saudi Arabia. The kingdom has called such allegations "baseless" but has not offered any evidence Khashoggi ever left the consulate. Media and tech companies including Uber, Virgin and Viacom have withdrawn in protest at Khashoggi's alleged killing.

The UK and United States are considering boycotting a Saudi-backed conference set to take place later this month in Riyadh as a result of the disappearence and alleged murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, the BBC has reported.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then had a follow-up call with the crown prince to reiterate the U.S. request for information. Riyadh has supported the administration's tough stance toward Iran, a key rival of Saudi Arabia in the volatile Middle East.

Later on, State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said that the United States is "content with Turkey-Saudi agreement to form joint working group to investigate Khashoggi case".

However, Trump in the same interview said: "As of this moment, they deny it and they deny it vehemently".

Writing in the New York Times, Ms Cengiz said her fiancé did not express any fears about going to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to sort out some paperwork ahead of their wedding.

Turkish sources allege he was killed by a 15-strong team of Saudi agents. "The Saudi Arabia government has been asked, the ambassador has been asked directly to bring information back".

"He'd given it to her as she waited outside the consulate, telling her who to call if he didn't come out of the building", the report said, adding all the conversations of the Saudi executioners were recorded in this file".

A number of members of Congress have pressed the Trump administration to impose sanctions on the country in response to the Khashoggi affair.

Cengiz, who spent hours waiting for Khashoggi outside while holding his mobile phones, said her fiance never walked out of the consulate to meet her. Surveillance footage showed her pacing around outside at 5:33pm, speaking on her phone.

Those policies are all seen as initiatives of the crown prince, who has also presided over a roundup of activists and businessmen.
