Another surprise was the exclusion of both Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar who featured for India in the Asia Cup.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant's inclusion in India's 14-man squad announced by the BCCI on Thursday for the first two ODIs against West Indies nearly spells doom for the underperforming senior pro Dinesh Karthik.

The boost from the Nidahas Cup heroics (in Sri Lanka) has run its course for Dinesh Karthik as Rishabh Pant was named in the squad.

Chennai Super Kings' all-rounder Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, and Ravindra Jadeja have retained their spot in the team while Hardik Pandya, who was ruled out from Asia Cup 2018 due to injury, is not included in the squad. It will be a three-match ODI home series against Australia A which will be played in BKC, Mumbai from October 15 to 19.

The remaining three gyros available for use are technically enhanced and expected to have significantly longer operational lives. The telescope could work with as few as one or two gyroscopes, although that leaves little room for additional breakdowns.

Among the bowlers, Siddarth Kaul has been replaced with Mohammed Shami, who last played an ODI in September 2017. He had played all five Tests in England and the first one against West Indies in Rajkot, after being hampered with injury issues in the first half of the year. In their place are Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed and Shardul Thakur form India's bowling department.

Pant has been called up by the selectors, who also went ahead with MS Dhoni. Kohli's performance against West Indies in the first Test hinted that the Run Machine is perfectly fit and he might not be inclined to take any further rest.

Left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed continues to stay with the team after an impressive debut in the Asia Cup. In search of second wicketkeeper, we have given opportunities to DK and right now we are giving an opportunity to Rishabh Pant.

It remains to be seen whether Pant gets a place in the starting line-up. The first game will be played in Guwahati on October 21. Ravindra Jadeja is also expected to make it after his lion-hearted show as Axar Patel's replacement.
