Samsung launches world’s first four-camera smartphone

Samsung Electronics on Thursday (Oct 11) unveiled its latest smartphone which has four rear cameras - a first for the company as well as the industry, in a bid to reinvigorate growth in its mobile division.

True to rumours that leaked in the lead-up to the event, the A9 builds on the A7's triple rear camera system by going one better, with four rear cameras lined up vertically down its back.

Blass's image includes some info about what each lens is for, although it doesn't go very far to convincing us that more cameras = better photos. Above the main sensor sits a 10-megapixel telephoto camera that can give you 2X optical zoom, but has a smaller f/2.4 aperture lens.

The Galaxy A9 smartphone from Samsung is believed to have been recently spotted in the Geekbench results under the SM-A9200 codename.

Inside, the device is powered by an octa-core processor (likely a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chip) that's mated to 6GB or 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable via a dedicated microSD slot).

The primary camera is a 24-megapixel sensor with an f/1.7 aperture that handles most of point-and-shoot needs.

Kavanaugh to hear first arguments as Supreme Court justice
McConnell says he thinks the Kavanaugh fight contributed to Republican voters "getting more interested" in the midterm elections. The nomination went forward, and Kavanaugh was confirmed in a slim 50-48 vote on Saturday.

Though Samsung has not officially confirmed which phone it will announce, the Galaxy A9 is the subject of a whole barrage of recent rumours.

Probably the biggest highlight of the Galaxy A9 is its quad-camera setup on a single side. The handset is loaded with Android 8.1 Oreo and Samsung's Experience UX.

Yep, the brand new Samsung Galaxy A9 is a mid-range phone that provides "more ways to express yourself than ever before", according to the South Korean company.

The Galaxy A9 will be available in three color options - Caviar Black, Lemonade Blue, and Bubblegum Pink - with sales set to kick off in select global markets from November.

The story is breaking and will be updated shortly...
